Trade Your Car In Toward a New One
Apply trade-in value directly to your Buy Here Pay Here down payment · Houston pickup or nationwide
Cheap Cars Connect USA accepts trade-in vehicles in any condition — running or not, clean or salvage title, any U.S. state — and applies the appraised value directly toward the 10% down payment on your next purchase. No credit pull, no inspection trip required (photos and the VIN are enough for a firm offer), and no minimum equity threshold. For buyers tight on cash, trading in an existing vehicle is often the fastest path to meeting the BHPH down payment requirement, even on a vehicle you'd normally consider scrap. A typical trade-in appraised at $400 covers most of the down payment on a $5,000 used car. Houston-area buyers can drop the vehicle off in person; out-of-state buyers can ship their trade-in to us on the same carrier that delivers their new vehicle.

Your trade-in title transfers to us at signing. We handle the rest. The 30-day money-back guarantee applies to your new vehicle from the moment you sign.
What we typically pay
Trade-in value examples
These are indicative ranges — every appraisal is specific to your vehicle's year, make, model, mileage, and condition. Send photos + VIN for a firm offer.
Non-running / salvage
$150 – $800
Mechanical failure, accident damage, salvage title. Value depends on parts and scrap demand. Often enough to cover the down on a sub-$5,000 vehicle.
Running, high-mileage
$800 – $3,000
150,000+ miles, common mainstream model, drivable but showing age. Toyota Camry / Honda Civic at this condition typically trades highest in segment.
Running, well-maintained
$3,000 – $8,000+
Under 130,000 miles, clean title, documented service records. Can cover the down on most inventory plus meaningfully reduce the financed amount on your next vehicle.
Worked example
How trade-in math actually works
Say you're buying a $7,000 used vehicle. The Buy Here Pay Here program requires 10% down, which is $700. You trade in a 2012 Honda Civic with 165,000 miles, appraised at $1,200.
- Vehicle price$7,000
- Trade-in credit– $1,200
- Net price after trade$5,800
- Required down payment (10%)$700
- Cash out of pocket (down minus trade-in excess)$0
- Remaining trade-in credit reduces financed amount$500
In this scenario the $1,200 trade-in covers the full $700 down payment and the remaining $500 reduces the amount financed. Total cash needed at signing: $0 down (plus insurance + state titling fees). This is one of the cheapest ways to actually enter Buy Here Pay Here ownership.
Trade-in FAQ
Trading in a car for a Buy Here Pay Here purchase — common questions
Can I trade in a car that doesn't run?
+Yes. Cheap Cars Connect USA accepts non-running and accident-damaged vehicles as trade-ins. The appraisal accounts for whether the vehicle has resale value as a running car, parts value, or scrap value. Even non-running vehicles typically appraise at $150–$800, which often covers most of the 10% down payment on a sub-$5,000 used car. Send photos and the VIN for a firm offer; we don't need to inspect the vehicle in person before quoting.Does my current car need to be paid off to trade it in?
+Not necessarily, but the math gets more complex. If you still owe money on the vehicle, the payoff amount is subtracted from the trade-in appraisal. If you owe more than the vehicle is worth (negative equity), the difference is rolled into your new loan — which we generally advise against because it puts you upside-down on the new loan from day one. If you owe less than the appraisal, the difference becomes credit toward your new vehicle's down payment. How do you appraise my vehicle without seeing it?
+Photos plus the VIN are sufficient for a firm appraisal in most cases. We need: 4 exterior photos (front, rear, both sides), 2 interior photos (driver-side dash, rear seats), 1 photo of the dashboard showing current mileage, and 1 photo of the engine bay. The VIN lets us pull the vehicle history (prior accidents, ownership chain) and current wholesale auction data. For high-value or unusual vehicles, we may request a video walkaround. Can I trade in a vehicle from another state?
+Yes. Out-of-state buyers can ship their trade-in vehicle to us on the same carrier that delivers their new vehicle. The carrier picks up your trade-in at your address, we receive both vehicles in Houston for inspection and processing, and your trade-in title transfers to us when paperwork is finalized. Cost of round-trip carrier transport is usually offset by the trade-in value; for low-value trade-ins, single-direction delivery is more economical. What documents do I need at signing for the trade-in?
+Three documents: the current title in your name (or your name plus lienholder if still financed), a valid government-issued photo ID, and the vehicle's most recent registration. If the title is missing or in a previous owner's name, that needs to be resolved through your state DMV before the trade-in can be accepted — we can't take a vehicle without a clear title transfer path.Do you accept motorcycles, boats, or RVs as trade-ins?
+Cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, and minivans are accepted as trade-ins. Motorcycles, boats, RVs, and powersports vehicles are not part of our standard trade-in program because we don't resell those categories. For motorcycle or RV trade-ins, we recommend selling the vehicle privately first (typically yielding 20–40% more than a dealer trade) and bringing the cash as the down payment.
